November 30, 2024

The Meteorology Department says that Cyclonic Storm “FENGAL,” located about 360 km north of Trincomalee and 280 km northeast of Kankasanthurai as of 11:30 PM on November 29, is weakening as it moves west-northwest. The storm is expected to cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts this afternoon (November 30).

The system’s influence on Sri Lanka’s weather is gradually reducing, but showers and strong winds are expected to persist.

Cloudy skies and thundershowers will occur in the Northern Province and Trincomalee district, with some areas receiving heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm. Sabaragamuwa, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts will also experience showers, while the Western, North-Western, and North-Central provinces will see intermittent rain.

Evening or nighttime showers may occur in other areas, and winds of 50-55 kmph are expected across Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Eastern, Central, and Southern provinces.
