As the Gregorian calendar year ended on Sunday, people around the world celebrated the start of the New Year, 2018 with spectacular fireworks displays illuminating the skies across the world. Dazzling massive fireworks display were spotted in many capital cities. Meanwhile United Arab Emirates attempted to break a New Year’s Eve fireworks world record for the “largest aerial firework shell” as they lit up the sky over Al Marjan Island in Ras al-Khaimah.

2018 was graced with the first super moon of the year: January’s first full moon — nicknamed a 'wolf moon'. According to NASA, this the “biggest and brightest” for the entire year.

New Year is not over yet: according to traditional lunar Chinese calendar, 2018 is the Year of the Dog and it will be celebrated on February 16, 2018.
